Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Inspector General of Police Basant Kunwar have reached Tribhuvan International Airport to conduct surprise monitoring of the airport.
Along with the Home Minister, Director General of Department of Customs Shobhakant Paudel and Director General of the Department of Immigration Jhalakram Adhikari have also accompanied the Home Minister.
His personal secretary Bijaya Gautam said that Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Shrestha conducted an emergency inspection of Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office and Immigration. He said that after the inspection, a briefing is now being held at the airport.
About 100 kg of gold that was smuggled from the Tribhuvan International Airport was recovered and investigated by the Department of Revenue Investigation from outside the airport customs office on Wednesday evening.
The gold brought to Kathmandu from Hong Kong on July 18 has been found out from the investigation that the smuggled gold was brought by Ready Trade Pvt Ltd.
While smuggling the gold, the smugglers have molded the gold in the brake pad or brake shoe that fit in the two-wheeler. The goods were brought via Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong. The Revenue Investigation Department has arrested and investigated 10 people, including Chinese national Jiquan Lin, on charges of gold smuggling.
